New water pipes this New Year for Wavertree

08 February 2010

Wavertree's water network will be getting a New Year's makeover thanks to United Utilities.

Engineers working on behalf of the water company will be on-site at Mill Lane from Monday, February 15 to replace old cast-iron water mains with modern plastic ones.

The work, which is expected to take 12 weeks to complete, is part of United Utilities' £2.9 billion water quality and environmental improvement programme for 2005-2010.

Henry Bennett, a Project Engineer for United Utilities, said: "This work will improve the overall reliability of the water network and reduce the risk of leakage.

"The plastic pipes we are using to replace the cast-iron ones are strong and designed to last through many future generations to come.

"We are committed to providing the best quality of service to our customers and this latest scheme is a good example of us working to improve the region's water supply."

Due to the location of the existing water mains the lower section of Mill Lane at its junction with Childwall Road will be closed for approximately three weeks of the 12-week work duration.

Lance Lane will have a half road closure in place preventing access from Childwall Road.

Work further along Mill Lane may also result in some parking restrictions.

"The closure on the Mill Lane junction of Childwall Road will be fully signposted with diversion signs in place for vehicle access," said Henry.

"Pedestrian access to Mill Lane will be maintained at all times.

"Once our work is completed we will return all affected areas to their previous condition and all parking will be restored.

"We would like to thank our customers in advance for their patience and understanding whilst these improvements are carried out."
