Update on water supplies in North Cumbria

11 FEBRUARY, 2020  12:00

United Utilities is continuing to work on repairs to a water main in the Selside area that was damaged by Storm Ciara on Sunday.

The repair teams are working in extremely challenging weather conditions in a difficult rural location where the water main crosses a river bed and this means it is taking longer to complete the work than was originally hoped.

There is a chance that water pressure could drop later today in some areas, meaning some properties could go without water.  As a precaution a number of bottled water stations have already been set up to provide free bottled water should people need it.  These are at:

•             Shap Memorial Hall, Shap, Penrith, CA10 3NL

•             Broad Close Car Park, Appleby-in-Westmorland

•             Tebay Services (Northbound), Westmorland Place, Orton, CA10 3SB

•             Pooley Bridge Village Hall, Pooley Bridge, Penrith, CA10 2NL

•             Market Square, Kirkby Stephen, CA17 4QN

•             Clifton Village Hall, Clifton, Penrith, CA10 2EA

In a separate incident, residents in Shap are still being advised not to use their tap water for drinking, cooking or washing this morning. People can continue to use tap water for flushing the toilet.

The advice applies to around 400 properties and a full list of affected postcodes is available on the United Utilities website.  All other customers can continue to use their tap water as normal.
